Campus Ministry works hard to keep Christ at the center of Nouvel Catholic Central both inside and outside of the classroom. Students are offered a rich faith foundation, leadership and service experiences that empowers them to live out their Catholic faith as disciples of Jesus by loving God and neighbor.

Faith Foundation

• School begins and ends with prayer.
• Each student on campus is scheduled for a theology class as one of the class hours.
• Weekly Mass is celebrated each Wednesday for staff and students. Students are invited to be a part of the Mass as an Altar Server, Lector, Eucharistic Minister or member of the choir.
• The sacrament of reconciliation is highly valued at NCC. Diocesan priests offer the sacrament to students several times throughout the school year.
• Students offer Adoration during the Easter Season.
• Well-known speakers provide testimony and witness to the Catholic faith.
• A Spirit Cross promotes student involvement.
• Each May, Nouvel students honor the Blessed Mother with a crowning in the courtyard.
• Students celebrate the legacy of Catholic education in Saginaw and the United States through a variety of activities planned during Catholic Schools Week.

 

Faith Leadership

• The Campus Minister works with the Director of Catholic Identity to promote Catholic identity and bring service and social justice issues to the forefront.
• Students help plan and participate in school Masses and retreats.
• We invite students to belong one of our 3 faith-based clubs/activities: Bible Study, Protect Life Club and Catholic Quiz Bowl.
• The Father Henri Nouvel, Bishop Francis F. Reh and Mother Teresa awards are given to the senior students who have shown exceptional leadership in promoting Catholic identity.

 

Faith in Service

• High School students must complete of minimum of 100 service hours before graduation. Every year Nouvel students contribute approximately 10,000 hours of community service. Student cumulative service hours are shared quarterly with student. 
• Students that have volunteered in excess of the minimum and complete 150 hours are wear a special service cord at graduation and those at the top are recognized at the senior award night for their example.
• Junior high students also have a service component that is part of their theology grade.
• The Campus Minister provides information on many service opportunities for students including school, parish and community opportunities.
• Mission trips may be part of a student’s four-year experience.
• Students are given the opportunity to support school-wide service projects: food and clothing drives, class charities and other causes.

Faith Retreats

As part of the curriculum, high school and junior high students are offered a spiritual retreat each year.

St. Paul Oratory Chapel

Nouvel offers a chapel for students, faculty and staff so they might have the opportunity to spend quiet time in prayer before the Blessed Sacrament during the school day.
