Our second graders are becoming more confident learners ready to be challenged and recognized for their hard work. With growth at Nouvel, another second grade classroom was added to keep class sizes small. Each teacher can teach to the class and still have time for small group and even individual time, when needed. They understand each learner is unique and works to connect with them on differentiated lessons and goals. The robust curriculum supports grade level learning while preparing them for next.

Facts about 2nd grade:

• Accelerated Reader program begins (goal focused, compete with teachers)
• MAP Testing 3 times/year, reading & math focus (results used to make individualized goals and assignments)
• Technology supplements instruction & allows for individualized practice through IXL and improvement
• Reading groups based on IXL results
• Rocket math, daily timed tests (mainly addition & subtraction)
• Exploration of scientific principals, magnets, states of matter, animals, plants & water
• Cursive handwriting is introduced
