Our third graders gain confidence and independence. Our caring teachers foster this and continue to nurture their curiosity in the core subject areas. Each classroom reinforces positive choices through individual and classroom rewards and recognition. Regardless of which homeroom students are in, they switch for one core subject and are placed in small groups at times during the day. This allows students to get a taste for having multiple teachers and working with peers, skills we know are important later. Teachers are able to teach the class but also provide small group instruction, at times, to meet each student where they are. For the 2026-27 school year, a third classroom has been added for this grade level to keep class sizes smaller and allow for more individualized attention for each learner. 

Facts about 3rd grade:

• MAP Testing 3 times/year and begins testing in all 4 areas
• IXL used with MAP scores, to create individualized plans and groups (assignments continuously evaluated additionally throughout the year & changes can be made as needed)
• Math & reading centers (grouped by common abilities, allowing teachers to focus on the needs of each group & extra help needed)
• XtraMath & Accelerated Reader
• Social Studies - Michigan History
• Math focus on multiplication & division
• Cursive writing exercises
