Jolt Credit Union - Monsignor Forbes
Awarded annually, the Monsignor Forbes Scholarship was created to honor the legacy of Monsignor (Msgr.) Eugene Forbes. This scholarship honors his dedication to encouraging young adults to to continue their education after they graduated from high school. Jolt is proud to be able to help students of all ages achieve their dreams.
The scholarship is available to members of the credit union who are planning to attend or currently enrolled in a college, university, community college, or trade/technical school. Awards recognize outstanding personal achievements, scholastic accomplishments, financial need, community service, and GPA.
Since 1982, the scholarship committee has proudly awarded over $2 million to deserving individuals eager to embark on or continue their educational journey. In 2023 alone, a total of $90,700 was granted to 162 deserving members.
"Get To" Foundation
Get To® Foundation was founded, to continue Ben Jones’ legacy of inspiring others to consider obligations and obstacles as opportunities. By providing resources to communities, teams and individuals we encourage others to shift their perspective from “have to” to “Get To.”. The scholarship program was founded to support and identify talented high school seniors across the state of Michigan who demonstrate tremendous character, dedication to their studies, commitment to their teammates, leadership amongst their peers, service to their community, and a "Get To" attitude in every aspect of their life. With our contributions to each student's continued education or training, we aim to empower each scholarship recipient to continue to live with a "Get To" mentality and encourage younger students to adopt this powerful perspective they can apply to their daily lives.
This year our scholarship committee will award over $27,500 in scholarship awards to deserving applicants. We look forward to being part of each student's "Get To" journey and invite students to apply to be considered for this year's scholarship awards
Eligibility- Graduating Senior
- Must have participated in a sport for at least three years
- Must have maintained a 3.0 GPA or higher
- Must align with the Get To® motto and philosophy as identified by the athletic director
- Should be community involved, donate time to charities or causes, and demonstrate other leadership capabilities
- Must receive nomination from high school Athletic Director or school Administrator (i.e. Principal, Vice Principal, etc.)
Saginaw Community Foundation
Since awarding our first $500 scholarship in 1987, the Saginaw Community Foundation (SCF) has awarded college scholarships to area students totaling more than $6.5 million (as of 2019). Each year, over 300 individuals benefit from our scholarship awards. Our scholarships are very diverse and each funds reflects the individual interests and personal philosophies of its donor(s). Some can be used for Career and Technical Education (CTE) training (skilled trade/vocation), others are awarded only for undergraduate or graduate studies. Some scholarships are restricted to specific areas of study, while others are very broad. Some of SCF’s scholarships are need-based, others are based solely on merit, and some are a combination of the two.
Students from across Saginaw County, parts of the State of Michigan, and even other parts of the country use SCF scholarships to pursue education beyond high school. They come from all walks of life and their backgrounds may be very different, but they all have one thing in common – the desire and the drive to achieve a higher education.
MHSAA-Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar Athlete Award
Farm Bureau Insurance sponsors the MHSAA’s Scholar-Athlete Award. Since the beginning of the sponsorship, Farm Bureau Insurance has awarded over $1,000,000 in Scholar-Athlete awards. This year, 32 $2,000 scholarships will be available to high school seniors who meet the eligibility requirements listed below.
Eligibility Requirements:- Enrollment - Student must be enrolled and participating in interscholastic athletics at an MHSAA member school.
- Senior Status - Student must be a senior graduating during the 2023-24 school year.
- Varsity Letter - Student must have prior to senior year won a varsity letter in a sport in which the MHSAA sponsors a postseason tournament.
- 3.50 GPA - Student must have a minimum cumulative grade point average of at least 3.5 on a 4.0 scale. You may not round up a 3.4x grade point average for the purposes of qualifying.
Application Sections, Scoring & Helpful Hints:- Essay (40%): Be creative in telling the judges why sportsmanship is important to educational athletics. VERY IMPORTANT: the judges will be reading dozens of essays - make yours stand out! Tell the judges a personal story about sportsmanship; don't give them the Webster's definition of sportsmanship.
- Extra-Curricular Activities Form (30%): Focus on significant leadership experiences and significant athletic achievements and academic awards won. Judges are looking for quality of experiences, not quantity of experiences.
- Short-Answer Questions (20%): Use this space to tell us more about your experiences in high school sports and activities. These are not throw-away questions, consider them mini-essays
- Letters of Recommendation (10%): Approach coaches, teachers, school administrators, youth group leaders or others in your community to have them write recommendation letters so the judges can learn a little bit more about you.

Heisman High School Scholarship
The Heisman High School Scholarship gives out 100 scholarships ranging from $1,000 to $10,000 to male and female scholar-athletes who serve in their schools and communities. The Heisman High School Scholarship continues a 28-year tradition of honoring high school seniors who accomplish tremendous feats in the classroom, on the field, and most importantly, within their communities. The scholarship recognizes and rewards both male and female high school athletes who are community-minded and driven to use their exceptional talents for the benefit of all.
Criteria:- Cumulative 3.0 GPA
- Participate or have participated in grades 9, 10, or 11 in at least one of the following sports: Baseball, Basketball, Bowling, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Ice Hockey, Lacrosse, Shooting, Skiing (Alpine, Biathlon, Cross Country, Free-Style, Jumping), Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track & Field, or Volleyball (or Beach)
- Be a leader in school and in the community and serve as a role model for underclassman.
Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Regional Scholarship
Scholarships available to Bay, Midland, and Saginaw county high school seniors, regardless of ethnicity, who actively embrace Dr. King's dream of improving racial harmony and social justice.
Requirements:- Must be a high school senior in Bay, Midland, or Saginaw County
- Have a minimum of a 2.0 GPA
- Must have plans to attend a college, university, or vocational program
Elks Most Valuable Student Scholarship
The Elks National Foundation (ENF) has kicked off the scholarship year.
The Elks National Foundation (ENF) awards 500 four-year scholarships based on academics, leadership, and financial need. National awards range from $1,000 per year to $7,500 per year. The national awards will be announced in April 2024.
MVS scholarships are for students pursuing a four-year degree on a full-time basis (minimum of 12 semester hours), at a U.S. college or university next school year. Some important applicant details include:
- Current high school seniors (or equivalent) who are citizens of the United States are eligible to apply.
- Applicants do not have to be related to a member of the Elks.
- Male and female students compete separately.
- Applicants select from a list of the Lodges closest to their home address zip code. Please have your students choose Bay City #88 as their sponsoring Lodge. Complete details can be found at enf.elks.org/MVS.
Another scholarship opportunity, the Elks Legacy Awards, provide $4,000 scholarships for children and grandchildren of dues-paying Elk members. The ENF offers a total of 350 national awards.
