When families visit Nouvel or schedule a phone call with our admissions team, many share similar questions. Below are a few of the most commonly asked questions we receive, along with answers to help you better understand what makes Nouvel special.
We are also available by phone to discuss your specific questions at 989-399-2226.
What makes Nouvel unique? We prioritize small class sizes at all grade levels. We know that it is a difference maker in a student’s ability to learn and allows for individualized attention. In addition to an outstanding curriculum, our elementary students are scheduled for specials classes at least once a week, if not twice. As students get older, they are able to explore interests through diverse elective offerings in a safe, nurturing environment that allows their talents and gifts to shine. We encourage parental involvement by being a part of our school community and various volunteer opportunities.
How does the school use technology? Nouvel uses technology to supplement our curriculum and enhance our learning environment. We believe instruction by our teachers; the use of books and traditional methods are still the most beneficial way students learn. Technology isn’t used to replace instruction but in ways to enhance the learning environment. Smart boards or screens are available in most classrooms. At the high school and junior high campus, two computer labs and our media center/library offer spaces that students can use that require technology outside of the traditional classroom.
How is faith integrated into the school day? Nouvel welcomes students from all faith-filled backgrounds. Our students participate in weekly Mass and come together to celebrate as a school community. The Holy Eucharist sustains and inspires teachers, students and staff as they work to achieve excellence in the classroom and live as disciples of Jesus. Religion, or theology, class is a part of our curriculum and content varies by grade level, including discussion on world religions and time for personal reflection. We integrate virtues, good decisions and behaviors, and service to others in all we do, while celebrating everyone’s unique talents, gifts and beliefs.
What do Nouvel safety measures look like? Through community grants and outside funding, Nouvel proudly has enhanced security measures throughout both campuses, including a full-time School Resource Officer at each, who is actively engaged with our students. For the safety and security of our students, Nouvel has closed campuses. As soon as the school day starts, each are locked at all entrances. Students arriving after the start of school day, must be let into the building through the main office at either campus, or the attendance office in the case of the high school and junior high campus. Staff members must use their key cards to enter the building. No outside guests or visitors are allowed on campus until they have passed the visual screenings. Safety measures and procedures are continually reviewed and enhanced. Nouvel actively pursues funding to cover upgrades so tuition dollars can be spent on your child's education.
Is Catholic education worthwhile? A Catholic education is a worthwhile investment. We find that our students are offered opportunities and scholarships that they may not be afforded in a larger school. With an outstanding graduation success rate and post-secondary opportunities, students are prepared to succeed every step of the way. There is tuition assistance available at Nouvel Catholic Central, as well as various scholarships, for eligible students, plus flexible payment options for all families. Our Admissions team will work with you to share all opportunities available for your family.
Are students required wear uniforms? A student’s manner of dress and good grooming is indicative of pride in oneself and school. Nouvel has an established dress code, for young fives through 12th grade, with opportunities for students to still express their own creativity.
